Job summary

UCSF Medical Center in Oakland seeks a staff registered nurse to join the pediatric ICU team. The role uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care within an interdisciplinary team.

You will manage complex pediatric patients, monitor advanced vitals, respond to changes, and assist across UCSF locations. A BSN is preferred, and current CA RN license plus CPR and PALS are required.

Qualifications

  • Two+ years of PICU RN experience or pediatric clinical preceptorship.
  • Recent inpatient Pediatric ICU experience preferred.
  • Ventilator management.
  • Pain and sedation management.
  • Advanced patient monitoring.
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as a member of interdisciplinary nursing teams and carries out established nursing procedures.
  • Provides safe, therapeutic care and supports complex patient needs.
  • Assists with managing patient care across the nursing team.
  • Maintains knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act and professional responsibilities.
  • Contributes to a coordinated care plan across UCSF Medical Center locations.

Job description

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

The staff registered nurse is a professional care giver who follows the framework of primary nursing and assumes responsibility and accountability for the care and teaching of a group of patients/families for a designated time frame. The staff RN directs and provides care to these patients utilizing therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

Required qualifications:
  • A minimum of two (2) years of PICU registered nurse experience OR a pediatric clinical preceptorship
  • Recent nursing inpatient Pediatric ICU experience within the last year preferred
  • Ventilator management
  • Pain and Sedation Management
  • Advanced Patient Monitoring
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Licensure & Certifications:
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of California
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification
  • Current Healthcare Provider PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
