Job description

The Patient Safety Program is a collaborative effort shared by the healthcare system's Patient Safety Program Managers within our High Reliability Service at the San Francisco VA Health Care Facility. The Patient Safety Manager/Registered Nurse will demonstrate leadership and expertise in formulating creative and effective approaches to the analysis and management of safety and reliability issues within complex clinical and administrative systems.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following at the time the program was completed: ACEN or CCNE; or individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Nursing. Foreign graduates must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) candidates may be appointed temporarily while pursuing licensure.

Note: All current VHA employees in the 0610 series performing these duties as of 1/29/2024 are considered to meet all qualification requirements.

Preferred Experience:

  • Four to five years of acute inpatient nursing experience
  • MSN or related master's degree
  • Experience with data collection, root cause analysis (RCA), healthcare failure mode effect analysis (HFMEA)
  • Experience preparing and reviewing reports involving trend analysis and patient safety follow-up

Salary: Dependent on qualifications:

  • Nurse I Levels 1-3: $152,363-$211,773 annually
  • Nurse II: $175,217-$225,700 annually
  • Nurse III: $192,738-$225,700 annually

Physical Requirements: Visual acuity, keen hearing, manual dexterity, ability to work effectively in stressful situations, occasional travel, schedule flexibility, and compliance with telework policies. Driving may be required.
