Job description

Location: Messino Cancer Centers, 1815 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC 28803
Pay Range: $26.54 – $49.29 per hour

Job Summary

Provides safe, accurate and efficient patient care, including patient assessment, review of labs and vital signs, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. Follows all Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs) for the role, provides triage care when necessary, and communicates patient condition effectively to multidisciplinary team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non‑oncologic agents as ordered by providers, following Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste in accordance with OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
  • Perform new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support.
  • Complete thorough, accurate, and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered, ensuring appropriate charges are captured.
  • Provide telephone triage, prioritizing incoming calls and messages from patients, families, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices, responding appropriately within the required time frame.
  • Assist with inventory and re‑stocking medical supplies, recommend new items as needed, and place stock in storage areas promptly.
  • Complete annual required safety and nursing trainings and attend all mandatory staff meetings.
  • Maintain and ensure confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
  • Assist in training new employees related to job duties according to JBIs.
  • Work at any company location and provide overtime when adequately notified; perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations related to patient privacy, employee rights, safety, labor, and employment law.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Education: Nursing Degree (Bachelor of Science or Associate’s degree).
  • Licensing: Unencumbered RN License in the state of employment or multi‑state license; current CPR and BLS certifications.
  • Driver: Valid driver’s license and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed.
  • Experience: Minimum years of experience in a hematology/oncology setting with proficiency in patient assessment and emergency response.
  • Language: Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills.
