Rochester Regional Health in Rochester, NY, seeks a Registered Nurse (RN) to join the PACU team at Unity Hospital. You will monitor patients recovering from anesthesia, assess vital signs, educate families, and coordinate with anesthesia and surgeons to ensure safe recovery outcomes.

The role requires an RN with a Nursing Diploma/AS, NYS RN license, and BLS, with a preference for a Bachelor's degree and 6+ months of experience.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provides high-quality, patient-centered, clinical care.
  • Performs initial and ongoing assessment of the patient, utilizing appropriate data.
  • Communicates and documents assessment of patient with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Develops and documents plan of care, treatment and services.
  • Complies with organizational policies and safety protocols.
  • Revises plan of care based on ongoing evaluations.
  • Completes CRU form for Nursing Research Department using a recent US article.
  • Completes at least 5 nationally approved contact hours per year.
  • Completes mandatory in-services and health screens timely.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

PACU

The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is a Critical Care Unit providing care for patients who are recovering from surgery. In this role, you will monitor and assess patients’ vital signs recovering from anesthesia, identify and address any complications or changes in patient conditions, educate patients and families on post-operative care and recovery expectations, and collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides high-quality, patient-centered, clinical care

  • Performs initial and ongoing assessment of the patient, utilizing appropriate data (i.e. physical, psychological, educational and risk-screen data appropriate for the chronological / developmental age of the patient).

  • Communicates and documents assessment of patient with the interdisciplinary team. Utilizes all available resources in order to meet the needs of the patient and family.

  • Develops and documents plan of care, treatment and services which is individualized and appropriate for the patient needs, strengths, limitations and goals.

  • Complies with organizational policies, procedures and protocols including policies governing safety, medication administration and documentation.

  • Revises plan of care based on ongoing evaluations and updates documentation appropriately.

  • Completes at least one clinical research utilization (CRU) form for submission to Nursing Research Department utilizing a research article from the last 5 years from research performed in the United States.

  • Completes a minimum of 5 nationally approved contact hours (CNE or CEU) per year.

  • Completes mandatory in-services and health screens in timely manner.

  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing

  • Registered Nurse license in New York State.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

  • At least 6 months experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.
