GENERAL SUMMARY:

1. Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.
2. Perform scrub functions, including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedures.
3. Perform circulating functions, including monitoring, recording, communicating patient condition, and managing overall nursing care before, during, and after procedures.
4. Assist operating physicians with surgical tasks such as hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and patient positioning.
5. Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, and equipment for use.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR required professional licensure at the time of hire.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire or transfer.
• One or more of the following required:
  1. Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 months of hire or transfer (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted).
  2. BLS Provider obtained within 1 month of hire or transfer (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous operating room experience.
