Job summary

Mercyhealth in Illinois is seeking an Operating Room Nurse to deliver safe, high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgery. You will work with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the team to assess patients, implement individualized plans, administer treatments, and monitor outcomes, upholding clinical standards and patient safety.

The role requires strong clinical judgment and collaboration. Schedule features 10-hour shifts with call rotation and daytime hours.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program; ADN required upon hire, BSN preferred.
  • Current RN license in state of practice; CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days.
  • ACLS/PALS/PEARS/NRP or department-specific certifications may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes nursing process and interdisciplinary teamwork to care for patients.
  • Administers medications and treatments per policies and standards.
  • Documents according to standards of care and performs care planning.
  • Develops patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and families.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and unit governance.
  • Escalates patient safety concerns through the proper chain of command.

Job description

Overview: As an Operating Room Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. Working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary team members, you will assess patients, implement individualized care plans, administer treatments, and monitor patient outcomes while ensuring adherence to clinical standards and patient safety practices. This role requires strong clinical judgment, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence in surgical care.

Schedule: 10-hour shifts with call rotation

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Utilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and State laws practice act.
  • Documents according to standards of care.
  • Performs assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care.
  • Develops, initiates, and executes a patient plan of care according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and or clinic policy including patient and family instruction.
  • Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance.
  • Utilizes clinical expertise and guidance to other units’ departments in support of the patient’s longitudinal plan of care.
  • Utilizes critical thinking regarding patient safety and patient experience and appropriately escalates to the appropriate chain of command.
  • Participates in the professional nursing continuum process, unit practice activities and decisions and peer review process.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited nursing program. ADN required upon hire, BSN preferred. May require specific years of applicable experience to qualify (per department guidelines)

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
  • Licensed as an RN in state of practice
  • Approved CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days
  • Other certification(s) per unit requirements. For example : ACLS, PALS, PEARS, and NRP
