UCSF Health seeks a Clinical Nurse II for the Ophthalmology outpatient clinic, caring for adult and pediatric patients with a focus on safety, education, and high-quality clinical care.

The CN II will lead nursing assessments, triage via telephone/EMR, and serve as a clinical resource for staff while ensuring adherence to house and telephone standards within the Ophthalmology subspecialties.

• ADN required; three years of clinical nursing experience.

Job Description

Under general supervision of the Nurse Supervisor and Administrative Director of Ophthalmology, guided by the policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the medical director and physician staff, the Clinical Nurse II (CN II) performs established nursing procedures using clinical knowledge to care for adult and pediatric patients. The nurse provides excellent clinical care, telephone advice, and patient education to the Ophthalmology patients. The CN II will comply with the Medical Center house and Telephone Standards.

The CN II is accountable for their own practice and has primary responsibility for utilizing nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe patient care in the outpatient clinical setting. S/he carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required and performs nursing care for patients with complex needs. CN II is recognized as a leader and clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the practice and organization. CN II serves as resource for all clinical staff and initiates and participates in patient and staff education. The Clinical Nurse II is responsible for nursing in the following Ophthalmology subspecialties:

• Oculoplastics
• Comprehensive ophthalmology
• Retina
• Glaucoma
• Cornea and Refractive Surgery
• Oncology
• Neuro-Ophthalmology
• Optometry
• Strabismus
• Pediatrics

The Clinical Nurse II must have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with staff, patients, and providers. A high degree of independence, initiative, and diplomacy are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff, and patients in a complex environment.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS – Associate degree Nursing (ADN) – Three years of clinical nursing experience – Recent two years' experience in an Ophthalmology Clinic Setting – Strong IV insertion and management experience (IV placement performed daily or multiple times per week) – One year's experience in providing acute symptom triage via telephone and/or EMR messages – Strong Written and Verbal Communication Skills – Ability to work independently, exercise clinical judgement, multitask and balance competing priorities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION – Two years of Pediatrics nursing experience – Experience working at Academic Medical Center – Experience working in an Ophthalmologic setting

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS – Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. – Current healthcare provider CPR certification
