Qualifications

  • RN license required in PA or NJ; active license

Overview

With a commitment to patient‑ and family‑centered care, the professional nurse uses the nursing process to address the physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs of a diverse patient population at Jefferson Health. The nurse develops individualized nursing plans in collaboration with patients, their care partners, and the healthcare team, respecting cultural beliefs and values.

Responsibilities
  • Interact with co‑workers, patients, and their family or designated care partners in a collaborative manner.
  • Integrate evidence‑based practice, clinical expertise, and patient preferences into optimal healthcare delivery.
  • Partner with patients and their care partners to identify learning needs and provide education that is useful, understandable, and affirming.
  • Minimize risk of harm by following established nursing practices, protocols, and personal performance standards.
  • Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support ethical decision‑making.
  • Analyze data to monitor care outcomes and apply improvement methods to design and test changes that enhance quality and safety.
  • Function effectively within inter‑professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision‑making.
  • Provide a safe, compassionate, and coordinated environment that respects patient priorities and cultural values.
  • Create an environment of belonging and inclusion while demonstrating problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Commit to ongoing learning and professional growth, and act as a primary preceptor for appropriate staff members.
  • Actively participate in hospital‑ and practice‑based committees, including safety and quality improvement.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Specialized Diploma: Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • Patient‑ and family‑centered practice knowledge: ability to convey respect and collaborate with patients, families, and care partners.
  • Cultural awareness: knowledge of diverse backgrounds and ability to convey respect and connect effectively.
  • Effective communication: understanding of communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to transmit, receive, and interpret ideas accurately.
  • Partnership language: ability to engage patients and families in their health and healthcare.
  • Delegation: ability to delegate tasks to team members respectfully.
  • Patient assessment and care: knowledge of evaluating ailments and injuries and implementing treatment plans.
  • Patient and care partner education: knowledge of child and adult education techniques and ability to elicit learning priorities.
  • Medication administration and prescription: knowledge of medications and ability to administer and prescribe appropriately.
  • Discharge planning: ability to partner with patients and families in developing a discharge plan and arranging follow‑up care.
  • Assessment and diagnosis: familiarity with assessment tools, clinical judgment, and problem‑solving techniques.
  • Health information documentation: knowledge of appropriate documentation methods and ability to record medical data.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support certification.
  • AHA: American Heart Association certification.
  • RN: Licensed Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania or New Jersey.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) or completion of BSN or an appropriate advanced degree within 3 years of hire.
  • 1 year of prior experience as an RN in an acute care setting.
Additional Qualifications
  • Active RN license required in state of practice.
Physical Demands
  • Lift and carry 40‑50 lbs. (e.g., push/pull patients on beds or stretchers, lateral transfers up to 50 lbs.) Frequently standing/walking; may walk 8‑10 miles per shift. Perform kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR as necessary.
Work Schedule

Work Shift: Workday Evening.
