Job summary

Novant Health's Hilton Head Hospital is seeking an OR Registered Nurse to join a busy surgical program with general, orthopedics, spine, and cardiac cases. You will work closely with surgeons and the interdisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality care throughout the patient’s surgical journey.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with RN licensure in the relevant state.
• One year of relevant OR nursing experience preferred.
• Active RN license and current BLS/ACLS as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the healthcare team by building authentic relationships with patients and their families.
• Collaborate with physicians and team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care plans.
• Provide evidence-based nursing care, including meds, IV starts, dressings, and CPR when needed.
• Ensure documentation, SBARQ communication, and adherence to policies and procedures.
• Delegate appropriately while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.

Join the surgical team at Hilton Head Hospital, a 94-bed hospital featuring 6 operating rooms and a busy surgical program completing approximately 12–15 cases daily. Our OR team supports a diverse range of specialties, including general surgery, orthopedics, spine, open-heart, vascular/peripheral procedures, plastics, and limited pediatrics.

As an OR Registered Nurse, you’ll collaborate closely with surgeons and the interdisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality, compassionate care throughout the surgical experience.

What You'll Do

• Serve as a leader of the healthcare team by establishing an authentic, personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system


• Collaborate with physicians and team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care

• Accept responsibility, authority, and accountability for the management and provision of care in accordance with current policies and procedures

Core Responsibilities Include:

• Assessment: Demonstrates refined assessment skills to collaboratively discover the patient's story, integrating subjective data, objective data, physical picture, psychosocial components, personal preferences and norms, and learning needs and preferences. Utilizes an ongoing process to interpret data and recognize patterns and trends to determine immediate and future care needs.


• Planning: Dialogues with the patient and support system to identify priorities and incorporate preferences into care plans. Engages interdisciplinary teams, identifies resources, establishes goals, and prioritizes interventions. Continuously modifies plans based on patient condition and needs.


• Implementation of Interdisciplinary Plan of Care: Advocates for patients while implementing care plans. Collaborates with healthcare teams, educates patients and support systems, and ensures completion of interventions and therapies. Performs nursing duties including medication administration, IV starts, dressing changes, patient transport, and emergency response such as CPR.


• Evaluation: Continuously assesses patient progress, gathers input from patients and support systems, and modifies care plans to achieve desired outcomes.


• Communication and Documentation: Communicates care plans and progress using tools such as SBARQ and documents information in a timely manner.


• Delegation: Delegates appropriately while ensuring patient safety and accountability for care delivery.


• Performance Accountability/Evidence-Based Practice: Practices according to Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics, and ANA Bill of Rights. Engages in shared governance, process improvement, and professional development. Maintains a professional portfolio and integrates evidence-based practice.


• Teamwork: Builds positive relationships, supports team needs, mentors others, resolves conflicts, and responds constructively to feedback

What We're Looking For

• Education:4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license. In order to be considered for current licensure status, you must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course.


• Experience:One year relevant experience, preferred.


• Licensure/Certification:Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required.
