Job summary

Pardee UNC Health Care in Mills River, NC is seeking a Clinical Nurse to coordinate and deliver patient care in a surgical setting using the nursing process. The role reports to the Nurse Manager/Director and supports the interdisciplinary care team to achieve optimal surgical outcomes.

The position requires an active NC RN license or a compact state license and BLS certification, with preferred experience in a surgical nursing environment. Per diem schedule, onsite work, day shifts.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina or one of compact states by the day of clinical care.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• One year of experience in a registered nurse role in a surgical setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administers patient care under the direction of a physician and collaborates with the care team to achieve expected patient outcomes.
• Develops a plan of care to protect patient safety and optimize outcomes for surgical procedures.
• Assesses and monitors patients per policy and procedure.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary care team in the provision of surgical care.
• Documents care in the electronic medical record (EMR) before, during, and after surgical encounters.
• Performs instrument and supply counts and assists with patient movement and positioning to prevent injury.
• Coordinates specimen delivery and orders appropriate testing.
• Communicates with patient and family to update the plan of care and ensure understanding and advocacy.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and infection-controlled hospital environment.

Summary

Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital surgical setting.

Responsibilities

• Administers patient care under the direction of a physician. Identifies and pursues expected patient outcomes in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies and procedures.
• Develops a plan of care to protect patient safety, prevent injury, and ensure optimal care outcomes. Identifies expected patient outcomes specific to surgical procedures through assessment, implementation, and evaluation of care, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Assesses and monitors patients per documented policy and procedure.
• Collaborates with and assists interdisciplinary care team in the provision of surgical care.
• Documents care performed before, during and after surgical encounter in electronic medical recordkeeping (EMR) tool.
• Performs surgical instrument and supply count. Administers interventions during patient movement and positioning in order to prevent injury. Ensures proper patient identification, site marking and surgical consent.
• Collect, label and coordinate delivery of specimens to laboratory as well as order appropriate testing.
• Communicates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care using cultural competency and active listening. Develops relationships with patients and their families that promote their ability to advocate for patient and family needs.
• Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospital environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.
