Job summary

CommonSpirit Health in Durango, CO is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the OR team at Mercy Regional Medical Center. You will collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and nursing staff to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a busy Level III operating room.

Requirements include RN licensure, an Associate Degree in Nursing (Bachelor's preferred), and OR experience. The role involves a 40-hour week with on-call shifts; up to 50 lbs lifting capability is expected.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma or by endorsement is required.
  • One year of OR experience preferred; specialty-specific nursing skills expected.
  • Current RN license; license in participating state or NLC needed.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate, communicate, and collaborate with the healthcare team and patient/family to identify and meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
  • Promote the optimal health, well‑being, and safety of the patient through the nursing process, in accordance with patient care standards and the State Nurse Practice Act.
  • Demonstrate personal accountability for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values.
  • Provide prior and intra-operative support: circulate and/or scrub on all cases.
  • Handle spinal, orthopedic, robotic, urology, plastics, ENT, gynecology, ocular, dental, and general cases.
  • Cross-train for all services; no specialized service teams.
  • Provide breaks, additional supplies, and sterile instruments during operations.
  • Assist with room turnover and restock for the next day’s cases.
  • Advocate for patients before, during, and after surgery.

Day to Day Duties

  • Handle spinal, orthopedic (total and smaller sports‑medicine caseloads), robotic, urology, plastics, ENT, gynecology, ocular, dental, and general cases.
  • Cross‑train for all services; no specialized service teams.
  • Provide breaks, additional supplies, and sterile instruments during operations.
  • Assist with room turnover and restock for the next day’s cases.
  • Advocate for patients before, during, and after surgery.

9 OR suites – 1 dedicated labor & delivery suite. Labor & delivery attends C‑Sections. Approx. 20–30+ cases per day. Schedule: 40 hrs/week, variable shifts based on surgical volume and unit needs. Call required – approx. 5 call shifts in 6 weeks (19:00–07:00 weekdays and 07:00–19:00, 19:00–07:00 weekends). 30‑minute callback radius required. Sleep rooms available in house.

Job Requirements
Education Requirements
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing required; Nursing Diploma or by endorsement.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required for new graduates, preferred for experienced RNs.
Experience Requirements
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • Specialty‑specific nursing skills and knowledge base required.
  • Previous OR experience required.
Licenses/Certification Requirements
  • RN license required; current state nursing license or valid RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact.
Physical Requirements
  • Medium work – may exert up to 50 lbs force occasionally, up to 20 lbs frequently, or up to 10 lbs constantly.
Where You’ll Work

The Surgery department at Mercy Regional Medical Center is a Level III operating room that treats spine, ortho, ENT, GYN patients, a few eye surgeries, some dental, plastics and a mix of general surgical procedures. We have seven ORs with two dedicated to outpatient cases and are strictly surgical for patients one year old and above. Our department is service‑oriented and we care for one another so we can all achieve a great quality of life and a safe work environment. To be part of this team, individuals must have strong OR skills, be honest, punctual, reliable and have a sense that every day they put their best foot forward for their community and patients.

Pay Range

$32.01 – $57.62 per hour
