Job summary

Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas is seeking an RN-Oncology Infusion to provide safe chemotherapy/biotherapy administration and patient care in Beaumont, TX. The role requires following ANA standards and OSHA safety regulations, with documentation in the EMR and patient education throughout infusion care.

Responsibilities include double-checking doses with another RN, monitoring for toxicities, and coordinating care with the oncology team.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• 1-3 years of related experience in nursing (oncology/infusion preferred).
• Current Texas RN license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Safely administer chemotherapy/biotherapy agents and document in the EMR with double-checks by two RNs.
• Provide chemotherapy/biotherapy/infusion education to patients and document in EMR.
• Maintain skills for starting peripheral IVs and caring for PICC/central lines.
• Perform patient assessments and monitor toxicities before infusions and document results.
• Assess nutrition and vital signs at the start of each cycle and reconcile home medications.
• Comply with OSHA safety regulations for handling chemotherapy and hazardous drugs.

Summary/Objective

The RN-Oncology Infusion must follow ANA Standards Practice in Assessing, diagnosing, identifying outcomes, planning, implementing, evaluating and providing quality of practice for patients. Follow OSHA hazardous drugs safety regulations and ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy safety and administration regulations.

• 1.Safely administer chemotherapy/biotherapy agents and document the drug administration in the EMR. This includes but is not limited to, assessment of lab values, MD order and dose/agent double check with 2 RNs prior to starting the infusion. Maintain Chemotherapy/Biotherapy infusion certification card every 2 years.
• 2.Provide chemotherapy/biotherapy/infusion education as needed to patients r/t care needed and document education given in the EMR.
• 3.Maintain skills for starting peripheral IVs, accessing/flushing of mediports, accessing and providing dressing changes for PICC and central lines.
• 4.Perform patient assessments and assess patient toxicities prior to infusions and document assessment and toxicities in the EMR using pre and post infusion/chemotherapy questionnaires.
• 5.Assess nutrition via questionnaire in the EMR at the beginning of each new cycle of chemotherapy. Assess vital signs including, pain scale, fatigue and distress at each visit. Reconcile patient home medication list in the EMR at each visit.
• 6.Follow OSHA regulations regarding safe handling of chemotherapy and hazardous drugs including using proper PPE at all times with proper disposal of hazardous drugs

Required Education and Experience

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• 1-3 years of related experience

Required License/Certifications

• Vailed RN license for the State of Texas
• CHEMO/BIOE Therapy certification; BLS within 30 days of hire
• (ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration within 12 months of hire for Outpatient Infusion Clinics)
