The Graceville Correctional medical staff is dedicated to providing quality medical and dental services to men and women at our correctional facility. We value the professional and caring employees on our MTC medical team who are dedicated to improving people’s lives. We are seeking an On‑Call Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team.
Primary duties
- Attend sick call with physicians to see inmates; prepare examination room and equipment.
- Call the physician for medication, treatment orders and other emergencies.
- Operate pill call, administer medication, and accurately and completely document treatment as required by applicable policies and procedures.
- Examine and assess inmates with illnesses or injuries or those who become ill or injured; confer with physician to refer to the emergency room as required and document in the medical record or other forms.
- Practice basic cost containment and utilization management for inmate care and facility operations.
- Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules.
- Accurately and promptly chart medical care; review medical files to ensure all provided services are documented.
- Monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.
- Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.
- Observe and record inmate behavior, assess and triage with appropriate documentation.
- Inspect medical unit for items that could be used as contraband; securely store or dispose of supplies and equipment.
- Control medication, syringes, or other medical supplies.
- Perform work on an on‑call basis, as required.
- Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved, appropriate medical services.
- Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required; take appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
- Initiate and complete investigations and inquiries with accuracy, as directed; gather information and evidence, interview and obtain statements; exercise independent judgment to recommend disciplinary action when probable cause exists.
- Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.
Education & experience requirements
- Degree in nursing.
- Current, valid nursing license for the state of Florida.
- Current CPR certification.
- Work within Florida State Board of Nursing scope of practice.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of Florida with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
