Job Description:

PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Unit Director, Clinical Manager and Charge Nurse, the Registered Nurse (R.N.) independently provides holistic, individualized care using the Nursing Process for patients routinely seen on the unit. Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical competency, Nursing judgment, teaching skills, and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care. Independently performs general and unit-specific clinical skills. Contributes to the Sierra View Medical Center Department of Patient Care Services and the Nursing profession in a positive manner.

Is responsible for the assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all patient groups.
Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

  • 2 * Utilizes holistic assessment skills, recognizing subtle, covert or abnormal signs and symptoms that include at least one of the following: involvement of patient/significant other, discharge needs, psychosocial needs, biophysical needs, environmental needs, teaching needs.
  • 3 * Identifies nursing diagnosis and interdependent nursing problems and selects applicable nursing care standards to guide patient care. Recognizes issues/concerns that could impact development of mutual goals.
  • 4 Ensures that the Care Plan is specific and unique to the individual patient utilizing Interdependent Nursing Standards and the discharge needs of complex/multi-system patients.

OBSTETRICS DEPARTMENT POSITION SPECIFICS
  • 1 Able to perform Antepartum care of the stable mother.
  • 2 Is knowledgeable of Maternal/Fetal complications and nursing responsibilities.
  • 3 Demonstrates care and knowledge in caring for a fetal demise, stillbirth or neonatal death.
  • 4 Demonstrates knowledge of breast-feeding and encourages the mother to breast feed.
  • 5 Demonstrates competency in admitting, discharging and providing care for neonatal/postpartum and gynecological geriatric patients.
  • 6 Is informed of current developments in the nursing field and Maternal Child Health.
  • 7 Is knowledgeable of medications used in the Maternal Child Health Department, including Neonatal dosages. Is knowledgeable of Pediatric/Neonatal dosages when administering medications to the newborn.
