The Stepdown Unit is located on the second floor of Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital. This is a 12 bed unit and the typical Nurse to patient ratio is 1:4.
The environment on our unit is friendly, team-oriented, and willing to learn.
We care for adult patients 18 and older who are being treated for medical conditions requiring hemodynamic stability requiring monitoring every 2 hours or less frequently. The patients on our unit may require limited titrated drips. Our patients are unique because they require close clinical monitoring, technical observation, and rapid interventions that are generally beyond the usual capabilities of the general patient care units.
One of the perks of working on our unit is that we just opened in late 2021 and staff are involved in creating and educating new standards and treatment plans.
Our nurses are successful because they are driven to learn new treatments and interventions with this new unit and work together as a team. The ICU nurses have been providing education to our nurses on this unit.
We orient new nurses to our unit by assigning a preceptor to each new employee. Each nurse will have 6 weeks of orientation, but it also depends on the nurse’s clinical growth during this time period.
WE ENCOURAGE PROFESSIONAL GROWTH.
If your career goal is to further your professional career, Stepdown can help with this by teaching you critical thinking skills and pathways.
