Job summary

Malvern Health is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) to work at our Malvern Behavioral Health facility in Philadelphia. The position features a 3‑shift, 12‑hour schedule with every other weekend, 7:00pm–7:30am shifts and applicable shift differentials.

The RN will join a comprehensive benefits package and provide high-quality patient care in a behavioral health setting.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Clinical experience in the treatment of addiction preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Program and Commission of Accreditation for Rehabilitation standards.
  • Previous nursing experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the safety, wellness, and well‑being of patients.
  • Facilitate the assignment of nursing tasks to ensure smooth shift operations.
  • Identify and provide written assessments of patients on admission and throughout treatment, documenting current needs, past medical/psychiatric/ substance‑use history, and bio‑psychosocial needs.
  • Identify and evaluate patients’ learning needs, ability, and readiness to learn; document appropriately.
  • Formulate and utilize written nursing care plans based on diagnosis, outcomes, and appropriate nursing measures; integrate plans with the multidisciplinary team and patient.
  • Apply nursing skills during detoxification, assessing medication needs based on withdrawal symptoms as ordered by the physician.
  • Administer and account for medications and controlled drugs, order new medications, and replace stock medications.
  • Provide patient safety through preventative measures, including implementing fire safety, infection control, and isolation procedures when appropriate.
  • Respond to and direct emergency situations; assist in patient instruction and education.
  • Implement special precautions/interventions for suicidal, homicidal, or aggressive patients until transfer.
  • Assess, evaluate, and revise the written plan of care, ensuring identification of problems and patient response to interventions.
  • Delegate duties to staff members appropriately, based on patient needs and staff skill level.
  • Obtain and carry out physician orders in a timely manner.
  • Participate in continuing education, audits, reviews, and committees.
  • Act as a resource person regarding patient care and specialty areas.
  • Participate in task forces and committees as assigned.
  • Make assignments for nursing staff on each shift, monitor patient care activities, resolve staffing issues, and ensure coordination of admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Be the lead nurse and answer questions for the shift.
  • Prepare and certify the accuracy of the midnight census.
  • Follow all infection control practices.

Overview

The RN will work a full time schedule of 3 12‑hour shifts with an every other weekend requirement. The shift times are 7:00pm – 7:30am plus applicable shift differentials.
