Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare West is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Level II Nursery. The role focuses on safe, effective newborn care under supervision, with a collaborative team approach to health outcomes.

You will work closely with the Maternal Child Department to support newborns and families, applying ICARE principles, and participating in quality initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction and safety.

Qualifications

• RN license in the state of practice and/or has an active compact license
• NRP certification completed within 60 days
• BLS/ACLS certification completed
• BNP/related neonatal certifications considered a plus

Responsibilities

• Assume responsibility for efficient management of patients, including assessments and care planning
• Demonstrate competency in all aspects of newborn care and delegate appropriately
• Document timely all patient assessments, vital signs, critical results, care plans, and education
• Organize and maintain equipment and supplies needed for newborn care
• Maintain effective communication with leadership, physicians, coworkers, patients and visitors to promote safety and satisfaction
• Ensure implementation of standards to protect patient rights for newborns and parents
• Demonstrate ICARE philosophy in daily interactions
• Support quality initiatives including Core Measures, Risk Reduction and Patient Satisfaction
• Maintain professional appearance and conduct, including dress code and etiquette

Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general supervision of the Director and Manager of Maternal Child Department, and the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse, the Registered Nurse in the Level II Nursery is responsible for the provision of safe, effective care of the newborn.

What you will do in this role

• You will assume responsibility for the efficient management of patients including but not limited to assessments and care planning
• You will demonstrate and maintains competencies in all aspects of newborn care and able to delegate appropriately.
• You will demonstrate knowledge and properly documents in a timely manner all patient assessment, vital signs, critical results, care planning, and education
• You will organize and maintains proper equipment and supplies needed for newborn care
• You will maintain effective communication with leadership, physicians, co-workers, patients and visitors to promote patient safety and satisfaction
• You will ensure implementation of operational standards which promote the maintenance of patient rights for the newborn and parents
• You will demonstrate knowledge of & practices the ICARE philosophy daily by interacting in a positive manner with all patients, visitors and colleagues
• You will demonstrate knowledge and maintains all quality initiatives which include but are not limited to Core Measures, Risk Reduction Initiatives and Patient Satisfaction
• You will demonstrate professionalism by maintaining proper dress code, telephone etiquette, and projecting positive image and attitude

What qualifications you will need

• Associate Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma required
• Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred
• < 1 year applicable experience
• Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation.
• American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program within 60 days
• Stable certification within 6 months
