We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Registered Nurse with an interest in Neonatal ICU (NICU) to join our dynamic and supportive team in an exciting role! Memorial Hermann (MH) Southwest Hospital NICU is hiring for an experienced RN role that includes spilt responsibilities for Vermont Oxford Network (VON) and service line program coordinator. In addition, the role will require the occasional bedside duties as needed based on census.
Flexibility, strong communication and engagement are crucial needs for any eligible candidate. In addition, the role will work closely with NICU team and leadership. This position is for Full Time Days, Monday-Friday with some call shifts on weekends/holidays.
The ideal candidate will have 3+ years experience in a NICU specialty, hold a BSN and be BLS & NRP certifications. Additional certifications are a plus. Computer experience is preferred in Office products Word, Excel and Power Point.
About Our Unit
-The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital is a state designated Level III provider of newborn services. We have 40 beds and provide varying levels of care including intensive, intermediate, and isolation. We have access to consultants, surgeons and ancillary services that allow comprehensive treatment across the full range of neonatal problems. All care is directed by neonatologists in house 24/7. Our NICU is equipped with the latest technology and prepared with the most modern treatment modalities to provide the highest level of care.
Vermont Oxford Network (VON)
-Our NICU became the first NICU in the Memorial Hermann system to become a member of the Vermont Oxford Network (VON). Vermont Oxford Network maintains one of the world’s largest NICU Databases. The Vermont Oxford Network is a voluntary collaborative group of health professionals committed to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of medical care for newborn infants and their families through a coordinated program of research, education, and quality-improvement projects. This database includes information from over 700 Neonatal Intensive Care Units around the world including care and outcomes for high-risk infants. High risk usually refers to babies born at very low birth weights (VLBW defined as 401gms to 1500gms babies or less than one pound babies to babies who are just a little over 3lbs, respectively). This database provides unique, reliable and confidential data to participating units for use in quality management, process improvement, internal audit and peer review. VON was exactly what we were looking for to meet our needs! As a result of becoming a member of this database we have been able to implement changes in our care that have resulted in improved outcomes.

Collaborates with the physician and healthcare team in the delivery of patient care, utilizing the nursing process. Provides professional nursing care to patients, including conducting nursing assessments, assisting with exams and treatment, patient education, and maintenance of medical records. MHHS hires RNs based on years of experience groupings (i.e. newly licensed RN [working under the supervision of RN clinical preceptor], less than 1 year, 1-3 years, 3 to 10 and 10+).

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing; Bachelors of Nursing preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current State of Texas license or temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing
- Certified in Basic Life Support
- Additional certifications may be required based on discipline and/or nursing unit requirements
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- RN I < 1 year
- RN II = 1-3 years
- RN III = 3-10 years
- RN IV = 10+ years
- Effective oral and written communication skills
Principal Accountabilities
- Delivers safe and appropriate care to patients, according to the nursing skills inventory and the age and needs of the patient/population served.
- Coordinates the planning for the delivery of nursing care with an interdisciplinary team and administers appropriate clinical decisions in the delivery of patient care.
- Collaborates with, directs, and may delegate to the healthcare team in the attainment of positive outcomes based on data, research, evidence, and professional standards of care.
- Coordinates treatment plans; develops/implements discharge and/or transfer plans.
- Participates in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of programs, process improvement and desired client-centered outcomes.
- Considers the diverse needs of each patient through the entire continuum of care, providing and ensuring the highest level of service according to established service standards, optimizing the patient experience.
- Adheres to all regulatory and Texas Board of Nursing standards.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staffs and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards, being a good steward of resources, including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
