  • Department: Department of Veterans Affairs

The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Wichita, Kansas is currently recruiting for a Registered Nurse for their Medical Surgical Unit.

Key Responsibilities

The staff nurse provides care that compensates for or assists in meeting the health-related self-care deficits of the Veteran patient. The care provided will result in a) meeting of existent/emerging self-care demands, and/or b) enhancing or developing self-care. The Medical/Surgical unit consists of a smaller 10 bed telemetry unit and a 19 bed Medical Surgical unit. The unit is open 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.

The Medical Surgical nurse is expected to be proficient in all areas of caring for acutely ill patients. The department is a fast-paced area that provides care for patients with multiple, complex co-morbidities, both medical and surgical. Each area requires excellent assessment skills and critical thinking ability. Must be able to adapt to rapidly changing conditions of patients and communicate effectively with other healthcare providers.

The staff nurse interprets the philosophy and goals of Nursing to others in the work setting; functions within established guidelines and demonstrates the ability to work effectively and develop therapeutic relationships with patients, their families and other professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package:
