Job Description

The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing their skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. She/he is responsible for quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. Also, directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

A Registered Nurse I (RN I) is responsible for the care of the population they are assigned. An RN I must complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies as identified by the Director/Designee, and meet the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include: assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in PI activities and department initiatives, communicating with the Director/Designee and co-workers, attending Valley Health paid education/seminars/conferences, workshops, or reading nursing articles. The portfolio must be current and submitted annually by March 1st. The RN routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review, and develops educational materials for staff, patients, and families.

Qualifications
  • Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN, or ADN) required; Bachelors Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • RN License required; BLS Certification (AHA Healthcare Provider) required; relevant specialty certification preferred
Additional Requirements
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in Virginia, either via multi-state or single-state license
  • New hires must have AHA certification prior to orientation
Minimum Qualifications
  • Competent in providing care across human development stages
  • Reliable communication means with the hospital
  • For new or promoted RN I: eligibility to test for Virginia Board of Nursing or equivalent licensing requirements depending on residency
