Job summary

HCA Florida Largo Hospital is seeking an RN for the Ortho Surgical Care unit to support patients recovering from elective and robotic surgeries and to build a foundation in perioperative care.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team, including Physical Therapy, to promote mobility, manage pain, and prepare for discharge in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in medical-surgical or perioperative settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to post-operative patients after elective, robotic, and minimally invasive procedures.
  • Perform post-operative assessments and monitor for infection, bleeding, respiratory issues, and clinical changes.
  • Manage and document pain control using evidence-based practices.
  • Collaborate with Physical Therapy to promote early mobility and functional recovery.
  • Educate patients and families on care plans, activity restrictions, wound care, and recovery expectations.
  • Coordinate care with surgeons, case managers, pharmacists, and rehabilitation teams.

As a Registered Nurse on this specialized surgical unit, you will care for patients throughout their post-operative recovery journey, helping them regain mobility, manage pain, prevent complications, and prepare for discharge. Working closely with Physical Therapy and a multidisciplinary team, you will play a critical role in helping patients achieve positive outcomes and return to their highest level of function.

This unit is ideal for nurses who enjoy seeing patients recover quickly, value interdisciplinary collaboration, and are interested in gaining surgical experience that can serve as a pathway to a future career in the Operating Room, PACU, or other perioperative specialties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from elective, robotic, and minimally invasive surgical procedures.
  • Perform thorough post-operative assessments and monitor patients for signs of complications, including infection, bleeding, respiratory compromise, and changes in clinical condition.
  • Assess and manage pain utilizing evidence-based practices to support recovery and patient comfort.
  • Collaborate closely with Physical Therapy to promote early mobility, improve functional outcomes, and reduce length of stay.
  • Facilitate patient progression through post-surgical recovery milestones and discharge readiness.
  • Educate patients and families on post-operative care, medications, activity restrictions, wound care, and recovery expectations.
  • Coordinate care with surgeons, advanced practice providers, case managers, pharmacists, and rehabilitation teams.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards of practice.
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately within the electronic medical record.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition using sound clinical judgment and critical thinking.

Qualifications Required

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
  • Current BLS certification.

Preferred

  • Previous Medical-Surgical, Surgical, Orthopedic, Progressive Care, or Acute Care nursing experience preferred.
  • ACLS certification preferred or obtained within designated timeframe.
  • Experience caring for post-operative patients preferred.
