Position Summary

To provide quality obstetric, neonatal, and gynecologic nursing care in a holistic environment, incorporating emotional support and education to promote patient well-being.

Position Requirements

Formal Education / Training:

  • Licensed by the State of Tennessee.
  • Nursing diploma or degree from an accredited institution.
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
  • At least one year of perinatal experience preferred.
  • Certified Lactation Consultant preferred.
  • NRP certification within six months of hire.
  • ACLS certification or willingness to obtain within six months.
  • Level I, II, and fetal monitoring training within one year.

Additional Skills and Experience:

  • Care of obstetric and high-risk obstetric patients.
  • Advanced fetal monitoring knowledge.
  • Ability to work under stress, return to work on call within an hour.

Workplace Experience:

Perinatal healthcare delivery.

Equipment and Skills Training:

Proficiency with standard patient care equipment and ability to work under pressure. Equipment includes neonatal monitors, fetal monitors, intrauterine pressure catheters, phototherapy lights, infant ventilators, and more.

Physical Environment & Effort:

Work in a perinatal/OB-GYN unit with patients from less than one year to over ninety-nine years old. Able to communicate effectively, stand for long hours, and lift up to 250 lbs with assistance.

  1. Perform comprehensive assessments upon admission.
  2. Develop individualized care plans with identified problems and outcomes.
  3. Plan patient teaching and discharge needs.
  4. Administer treatments and medications safely and competently.
  5. Accurately document all care activities.
  6. Reassess and modify care plans based on patient response.
  7. Accept charge responsibilities and facilitate staff development.
  8. Maintain a healing environment for patients and families.
  9. Stay current with qualifications and attend mandatory training.
  10. Ensure effective communication and complete assigned duties.
  11. Maintain professionalism in appearance and conduct.
