Job summary

St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston, TX, seeks a dedicated registered nurse for Labor and Delivery to provide comprehensive care during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. The role involves monitoring mother and baby, and coordinating care with physicians and support staff.

This full-time night shift (6:30p–7a) may rotate weekends. Applicants should hold an RN license in Texas, with BLS/ACLS/NRP and fetal monitoring proficiency, and preferably L&D experience.

Qualifications

• RN licensed by the Texas State Board of Nursing.
• Strong English communication, both written and spoken.
• Certifications: AHA BLS, ACLS, NRP and fetal monitoring.
• Ability to supervise and coordinate nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage laboring woman's condition and progress.
• Monitor fetal well‑being with electronic fetal monitoring.
• Stabilize the neonate immediately after delivery.
• Support maternal recovery after vaginal or cesarean delivery.
• Serve as circulating nurse during deliveries.
• Promote parent‑infant bonding in a baby‑friendly environment.
• Assess learning needs and educate patient and family.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Accountable for the observation, assessment, intervention, evaluation, rehabilitation, or health teachings of a person who is ill, injured, infirm, or experiencing a change in normal health processes; the maintenance of health or prevention of illness; the administration of a medication or treatment as ordered by a physician, the supervision or teaching of nursing; the administration, supervision, and evaluation of nursing practices, policies, and procedures; the performance of an act delegated by a physician and the development of the nursing care plan.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assesses and manages laboring woman's physical condition/parameters and progress through the labor and delivery, including significant other in the process.
• Assesses fetal well-being by means of electronic fetal monitoring and other standard parameters.
• Immediate stabilization of the neonate.
• Maternal recovery after delivery (vaginal or cesarean section).
• Assumes circulating role for vaginal or cesarean section delivery.
• Initiates parent infant bonding promoting a baby-friendly environment.
• Assesses learning needs and teaches patient and family.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
