Description
Riverside Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Interventional Procedures Registered Nurse (RN) to join our multidisciplinary team in Kankakee, Illinois. This position involves providing high-quality patient care across a range of procedures, including cardiac catheterization, interventional radiology, and neurovascular procedures. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced, multi-procedural environment, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional care before, during, and after various interventional procedures. This role demands strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to manage patient care across a diverse range of specialties.
Essential Duties
Patient Assessment & Preparation:
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients prior to procedures, including reviewing medical history, diagnostic results, and current health status.
- Prepare patients for interventional procedures, explaining the process, addressing concerns, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Assistance During Procedures:
- Assist in the procedural environment (Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, Neurovascular) by supporting physicians and specialists, ensuring proper patient positioning, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Monitor patients throughout procedures, tracking vital signs, oxygen levels, and other critical parameters.
Post-Procedure Monitoring & Care:
- Provide close monitoring of patients post-procedure, observing for complications, and implementing care protocols to manage pain, bleeding, or other potential issues.
- Administer medications, including pain management and anticoagulation therapies, as ordered, and educate patients and families on post-procedure care instructions.
Patient Education:
- Educate patients and their families about the procedure, expected recovery, potential complications, and necessary lifestyle modifications or follow-up care.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (including cardiologists, interventional radiologists, neurovascular specialists, and anesthesiologists) to ensure patient safety and effective care coordination.
- Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and staff regarding care plans and any changes in patient condition.
Documentation & Recordkeeping:
- Accurately document patient assessments, procedure details, vital signs, and post-procedure outcomes in the electronic health record (EHR), ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
Infection Control & Safety:
- Maintain a sterile environment, adhering to infection control protocols during all procedures.
- Ensure patient and staff safety through correct handling of equipment and materials, and by following established protocols for radiation exposure and other potential risks.
Non-essential Duties
- Participate in continuing education and training to stay up-to-date on best practices in interventional procedures and emerging technologies.
- Contribute to departmental meetings, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Support staff development by precepting and mentoring new hires or nursing students.
- Assist with inventory management and ensure that equipment is properly maintained and functioning.
Requirements
Preferred Experience
- Minimum of 1 year previous Cath Lab or Critical Care experience or 2 years critical care preferred.
Required Licensure/Education
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- *New Graduate RNs starting on or after 1/1/25 must earn Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 3 years of start date.
Preferred Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred*
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred or obtained within 6 months of hire.
