Ball Memorial’s adult intensive care unit is an 18-bed unit specializing in comprehensive care, prioritizing the patient and family by addressing medical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Driven by evidence-based practice, we provide up-to-date care and advance the nursing field. Our multidisciplinary team includes nurses, physicians, patient care assistants, case managers, and administrative staff. We focus on acutely ill medical/surgical patients, including trauma, general surgery, stroke, cardiac arrest, respiratory failure/prone positioning, neurosurgery, and unstable critical patients. We pride ourselves on our strong partnerships and high-quality patient care.

Nursing skills gained on this unit:

  • Ventriculostomy/Neurosurgery, CRRT/CVVHD, IABP, NIHSS Stroke Certification, Target Temperature Management, TBI Management, bedside procedures (bronchoscopy, central line placement, intubation, cardioversion, etc.)

Unit Successes/Designations:

  • Structured support and mentorship for new nurses during their first 2 years.
  • 12-14 Week Nursing Orientation
  • Supporting quick stroke treatment in the local community
  • Comprehensive post-arrest and trauma care
  • Presentation at national conferences by staff members
  • Professional development driven by CCRN
  • Recognition of several Daisy Award-winning nurses and nominations

Qualifications

  • Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Active RN license in Indiana or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • Graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Basic Life Support certification through AHA.
  • Additional advanced life support certifications may be required based on unit/department policies.
