Kent Hospital in Warwick, RI is seeking a professional nurse to render direct patient care and lead clinical teams in a fast-paced setting.

This position requires state licensure in Rhode Island, BSN, ACLS/BLS, and the ability to manage critically ill patients in medical-surgical units.

Qualifications

  • I.V. certification and ability to recognize significant cardiac arrhythmias.
  • ACLS and BLS certification or completion within first year.
  • RN licensure in Rhode Island and BSN.
  • Experience in caring for critically ill medical/surgical patients.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain patient records and ensure continuity of care.

Responsible for rendering professional nursing services, either directly or indirectly, for a defined group of patients according to the hospital’s philosophy of patient care.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care, including examination and treatment under an approved protocol. Evaluate outcomes and adjust nursing care processes as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Utilize the nursing process to implement goal-directed nursing care for a defined group of patients.
  • Monitor medical condition of assigned patients at all times and report to Nursing Supervisor, Physician or designee, any patient care problems, changes in condition or unexpected occurrences.
  • Educate patients/family regarding condition, treatment, discharge/transfer planning and follow up examinations if needed. Seek feedback from patients/family to evaluate understanding and document.
  • Perform a variety of nursing skills in compliance with physician orders and established Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with physicians and other departments to consult on patient status and to ensure continuity of care.
  • Respond to cases of cardiopulmonary arrest, fire, disaster or other emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain patient’s medical records in an orderly manner and document all care provided and significant information, legibly, accurately and completely.
  • Provide clinical leadership for other staff members and participate in the orientation of new personnel.
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities when necessary.
  • Assume responsibility for own professional development, setting goals and striving to achieve them through available resources, such as attending seminars, in services and/or reading journals.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • I.V. certification.
  • The ability to recognize all significant cardiac arrhythmia.
  • A clear understanding of symptoms and clinical findings for myocardial infarction and its complications.
  • An understanding of the needs of the critically-ill medical and surgical patient.
  • A thorough knowledge of the psychological as well as the medical needs of the patient and the need to maintain an environment free from noise and anxiety.
  • Competence in the operation of all resuscitation equipment.
  • BLS
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support completion. New graduates will complete ACLS within one year of hire.
  • Knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring and basic for Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumping.
  • Attendance and completion of yearly competency fair.
  • BSN
  • RI state RN licensure
