Job summary

Job Summary

POSITION IS BONUS ELIGIBLE

Responsible for delivering professional nursing services, either directly or indirectly, for a defined group of patients according to emergency department and hospital policy.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Provide direct patient care, including examination and treatment under an approved protocol. Evaluate outcomes and adjust nursing care processes as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
  2. Utilize the nursing process to implement goal-directed nursing care for a defined group of patients.
  3. Monitor medical condition of assigned patients at all times and report to Nursing Supervisor, Physician or designee, any patient care problems, changes in condition or unexpected occurrences.
  4. Educate patients/family regarding condition, treatment, discharge/transfer planning and follow up examinations if needed. Seek feedback from patients/family to evaluate understanding and document.
  5. Perform a variety of nursing skills in compliance with physician orders and established Hospital policies and procedures.
  6. Communicate with physicians and other departments to consult on patient status and to ensure continuity of care.
  7. Manage and coordinate the care of patients and staff to ensure a smooth flow of patients throughout their stay.
  8. Function as triage nurse by assessing patients directly on admission and prioritize cases according to presentation of symptoms.
  9. Respond to cases of cardiopulmonary arrest, fire, disaster or other emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
  10. Perform assessments and develop an individualized plan of care for geriatric patients.
  11. Maintain patient’s medical records in an orderly manner and document all care provided and significant information, legibly, accurately and completely.
  12. Assume resource nurse responsibilities when necessary.
  13. Assume responsibility for own professional development, setting goals and striving to achieve them through available resources, such as attending seminars, in services and/or reading journals.
  14. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements

Graduation from an accredited nursing program in Nursing and a minimum of one year’s job-related experience or equivalent is required. R I State Licensure is also required. BSN or enrollment in a BSN program required for all external candidates. BLS required; ACLS/PALS required within six months of hire / transfer.
