Job description

The Surgical and Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (SICU and Neuro ICU) has a combined total of 30 intensive care beds designed to provide specialized care to critically ill adult patients (14 and older). The unit typically has a 50/50 split of neuro and surgical patients.

Focus of Care

Patients with life-threatening conditions related to major elective and emergency surgical procedures, multi-trauma, traumatic brain injury, spinal injury, stroke, seizure, sepsis/multi-organ failure, hemodynamic instability, and failure to wean. Care includes comprehensive physical assessments, intensive monitoring, laboratory treatment, ventilator management, and hemodynamic monitoring.

Procedures Performed

• Placement of arterial line, central line, external ventricular drain, ICP monitor, SEPS drain
• Bedside bronchoscopy, abdominal washout, tracheostomy, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube placement
• Lumbar punctures, chest tubes, pigtail drains

REQUIREMENTS

• Registered Nurse, ICUSSN Required
• Date of Birth required
• References: 1 reference in entire work history
• Must have competency with EVDs, bolts, ICP management, trauma, and complex surgical patients
• Competency test within 48 hours of submission
• Recent Trauma Level One Experience required
• 1.5 years of 600+ bed academic hospital experience or 2 years total (traveling + perm)
• EPIC Experience
• Trauma levels must be included on every work entry
• Work history must be current
• One reference within the past 12 months from a manager or supervisor
