Job summary

SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) in Sitka, Alaska seeks a Registered Nurse (RN) for acute care to deliver professional nursing care across the lifespan in a fast-paced inpatient setting.

The RN will perform comprehensive assessments, implement and evaluate interventions, administer medications, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team. On-call may be required, and a Alaska RN license, BLS/ACLS/PALS as applicable are required within specified timelines.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current, unrestricted RN license in Alaska.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 3 months and recurring intervals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely per orders and policy.
  • Collaborate with providers and teams to coordinate care.

Job description

Registered Nurse (RN) – Acute Care

Pay Range: $41.66 – $58.69 per hour. Up to $25,000 sign‑on bonus and $10,000 relocation assistance for qualified hires.

The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers professional nursing care across the lifespan in accordance with organizational standards, policies, and evidence-based practice. The RN utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, delivering high-quality, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered services. The RN collaborates with providers and interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal patient outcomes, safety, and a positive patient experience.

The Acute Care Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care to patients across the lifespan with acute, chronic, and post‑operative conditions. This role requires strong clinical assessment skills, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the ability to manage fluctuating patient acuity in an inpatient setting. The RN must be competent in the use of all equipment in the specialty. On‑call may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Implement and evaluate nursing interventions and patient responses.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately per provider orders and policy.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalation of care.
  • Provide patient and family education related to care, medications, and discharge needs.
  • Deliver culturally responsive, patient-centered care.
  • Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care.
  • Facilitate referrals, follow-up care, and continuity of services.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
  • Advocate for patient care and assist patients in navigating the healthcare system.
  • Participate in quality and performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain required competencies and certifications.
  • Report adverse events, near misses, and unsafe conditions per policy.
  • Support orientation, mentoring, and education of staff, students, and peers.
  • Float to other departments or assignments as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, evidence-based practice, medication safety, and infection prevention.
  • Strong clinical judgment, organization, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-pace environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical systems.
Physical & Work Requirements
  • Lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand for extended periods and perform bending, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Work in a moderate-to-high noise clinical environment.
Education & Licensure
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – required within 3 months and every 3 years.
  • High-Risk Competency – required within 3 months and annually.
  • All additional specialty-specific or advanced certifications must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.

  • Clinical Competency Assessment – SEARHC.
  • High-Risk Competency – SEARHC.
