Medical University of South Carolina's EmPATH unit is seeking a Registered Nurse II to provide individualized, goal-directed patient care in a high-stakes environment. The role emphasizes nursing process, safety, and collaboration with the health care team to achieve optimal outcomes.

Under general supervision, you will rotate shifts, work 30 hours per week, and prefer a Bachelor of Nursing degree. A year of RN experience is required, with South Carolina RN licensure and BLS certification

EmPATH stands for “Emergency Psychiatry Assessment, Treatment and Healing." EmPATH Units deliver acute interventions for behavioral healthcare patients by moving them out of hectic emergency departments into a calmer, more therapeutic setting.

Job Description

Entity/Organization: MUHA (Medical University Hospital Authority/Medical Center)

Schedule: Rotating 24 hours and 36 hours per week. 60 hour per pay period.

Job Summary/Purpose: Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.

Minimum Training and Education: Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details. A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Additional Job Description Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
• Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams.
• Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
• Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
• Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, as well as to perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions.
• Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.
• Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.
• Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
