Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department. The 23-bed unit delivers initial treatment across a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries, requiring solid clinical skills and independent patient care.

Ideal candidates hold MD RN licensure, a BSN is preferred, and have at least one year of nursing experience. CPR certification and ongoing education are required to support high-quality care.

Qualifications

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or eligible via Compact state agreements.
  • BSN preferred.
  • One year nursing experience.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Maintain 10 contact hours of education every two years.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent care to ED and unit-specific patients.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and integrate evidence into practice.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care.
  • Coordinate care as primary nurse for the unit.
  • Contribute to the Relationship-Based Care model and NSQI data collection.
  • Participate in handoffs and medication safety initiatives.

The Emergency Department is a 23-bed unit that must provide initial treatment for a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries.

The ideal candidate for this position should have;
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • One-year Registered Nursing experience.
  • Solid knowledge and clinical skills.
  • Provides independent care to unit specific patient population; serves as clinical resource for others, utilizes and integrates evidence into practice, functions effectively in roles specific to unit (such as arrest team for ICU, triage for ED, etc).
  • Serves as an effective primary coordinating nurse; collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs.
  • Serves as clinical resource for others
  • Assists in team development and evaluation of the Relationship-Based Care model; suggests methods for improvement. Participates in collection of data related to Relationship-Based Care outcomes (e.g. hand offs, medication safety, etc).
  • Participates in implementation efforts addressing Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
Work Experience
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.; BSN preferred. Up-to-date status on all mandatory training and classes.
  • One year nursing experience. Solid knowledge and clinical skills.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education every two years.
