Job description

Medical services are provided in this teaching environment under the supervision of board-certified emergency physicians and Registered Nurses, consistent with the Standards of Emergency Nursing Practice. The team collaborates with other departments impacting EMTC operations. ED patients are registered by Registration/Patient Access/Admission staff reporting to the Director of Business Operations.

The EMTC serves over 120,000 patients annually, offering medical screening and emergency care for a wide range of conditions. Patients are triaged using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI), considering acuity and resource needs. Conditions range from mild to life-threatening, including pediatric issues like colds, rashes, and sore throats, to severe emergencies such as child abuse, sexual assault, sepsis, burns, and cardiac arrest. The EMTC provides stabilization and initial treatment for adults and arranges transfers as needed, ensuring care regardless of demographic factors or ability to pay. Resources can be scaled during large influxes.

All nursing practices adhere to legal, national, and institutional standards, supporting the Professional Model of Care, which emphasizes RN responsibility and accountability. Children's National promotes RN community relationships for broader health and well-being initiatives.
