Summary

The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. They assume responsibility for coordinating care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. The nurse administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines and influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

1. English Language Proficiency
2. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.
3. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an accrediting agency such as ACEN or CCNE.
4. OR individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing with coursework equivalent to a bachelor's degree may become registered prior to completing the program.
5. Upon obtaining a State license, the individual may be appointed temporarily and later converted to a permanent appointment.
6. Foreign nursing graduates must possess current, unrestricted registration and may require degree equivalency validation.
7. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in the U.S. or its territories.
8. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: Candidates without licensure may be appointed temporarily while pursuing licensure.

Grade Determinations:

Details on scope, education, and experience requirements for each nursing grade (Nurse I, II, III) are provided, including specific educational credentials and years of experience needed.

Physical Requirements:

• Flexibility in schedule and assignments.
• Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity.
• Long periods of walking, standing, stooping, sitting, kneeling, bending, pulling, and pushing.
• Potential exposure to infected patients and contaminated materials, requiring protective clothing.

Duties
