What you'll do
The Registered Professional Nurse I, Acute Care is accountable for delivering safe patient care utilizing the nursing process. The RN assesses, plans, delivers, coordinates, integrates, and evaluates nursing care related to patient's needs. The RN contributes to patient support through interdisciplinary teamwork.
The RN I role is suitable for a new nurse in their first year of practice, with support from colleagues. All RN I’s are expected to complete the Nurse Residency program and apply for advancement to RN II within 12-15 months of hire.
- Provides nursing care to patients across the lifespan in various settings, consistent with educational preparation.
- Collects, analyzes, and records relevant patient health data accurately, with no more than 3-5 exceptions.
- Analyzes assessment data to identify patient problems, with no more than 2-3 exceptions.
- Identifies expected outcomes tailored to the patient, with no more than 2-3 exceptions.
- Develops a plan of care with interventions to attain expected outcomes, with no more than 2-3 exceptions.
- Implements and records interventions appropriate to diagnosis or patient problems, with no more than 3-5 exceptions.
- Evaluates patient progress toward goals, with no more than 2-3 exceptions.
- Adheres to research-based practice standards, with no more than 2-3 exceptions.
- Supervises patient care provided by LPNs and support personnel 100% of the time.
- Demonstrates safety awareness, effective equipment use, and cost management.
- (RN I only) Maintains accurate documentation of care activities, 80-100% compliance.
- (RN I only) Performs and documents Point of Care testing and quality control 100% of the time.
- (RN I only) Maintains testing supplies and equipment per procedures, 100% of the time.
- Advocates for patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.
- Provides care in a non-judgmental, culturally sensitive manner, 100% of the time.
- Ensures informed consent is obtained for procedures, 100% of the time.
- Acts ethically on behalf of patients, 100% of the time.
- Adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
- Maintains current knowledge and skills in their practice area.
- Provides proof of licensure and completes required credentialing and training.
- Participates in educational activities and research, contributing to nursing science.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What we need from you
Education:
- 2-year / Associate Degree in Nursing, or Vocational / Technical Diploma, required.
- 4-year / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred.
All RN’s without a BSN are expected to enroll in a bachelor’s program within 4 years and complete it within 10 years, with certain exemptions.
Experience:
- New graduate or less than one year of RN experience, required.
License/Certification:
- NYS RN licensure or valid interim permit, required.
- BLS certification within 6 months.
- Additional certifications as required by department.
Skills:
- Clinical skills, attention to detail, multi-tasking, advocacy, adaptability.
Physical Requirements:
- Medium Work - exerting up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
- Occasional balancing, climbing, crouching, kneeling, lifting, pushing, reaching.
- Frequent fit testing.
- Constant typing, grasping, hearing, repetitive motion, seeing, standing, stooping, talking, walking.
Hazards:
- Occasional radiation/radiant energy, frequent exposure to bodily fluids/bloodborne pathogens.
Working Conditions:
- Occasional noise, vibration, wet/humid conditions, frequent odors.
Travel:
- Occasional travel may be required.

Pay Transparency
Salary depends on qualifications, experience, and other factors. The range is USD $39.01 to $58.51 per hour.
