Job summary

Meritus Health's Hagerstown Heart unit seeks a Physician Practice Assistant – RN to join the outpatient cardiology team. You will work with cardiologists, APNs, and a clinical staff to provide comprehensive heart health care. RN license in Maryland and BLS are required.

The role emphasizes patient education, critical thinking, and collaboration in a fast-paced setting. Responsibilities include patient assessments, triage, assisting in exams, treatments, and documentation in the EMR.

Qualifications

• ASN or higher in Nursing
• Current Registered Nurse license in Maryland or Compact multistate license
• Current BLS certification

Responsibilities

• Welcome and assess patients by obtaining health histories, vital signs, and other clinical information.
• Triage patient concerns, identify changes in condition, and communicate findings to providers.
• Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during examinations and procedures.
• Perform clinical treatments and procedures, including IV placement (when applicable), phlebotomy, breathing treatments, and other care.
• Monitor test results, worklists, and outstanding orders to ensure timely follow-up.
• Provide patient education, follow-up calls, and care instructions.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Monitor and order clinical supplies while supporting efficient practice operations.
• Assist with training and supporting Certified Medical Assistants and other staff.
• Complete daily quality control activities and monitor medications and supplies for expiration.

What You’ll Do

• Provide patient education, follow-up phone calls, and care instructions.
• Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
• Monitor and order clinical supplies while supporting efficient practice operations.
• Assist with training and supporting Certified Medical Assistants and other clinical staff.
• Complete daily quality control activities and monitor medications and supplies for expiration.

What You’ll Bring

• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or higher
• Current Registered Nurse license in Maryland or qualifying Nurse Licensure Compact multistate license
