Job Description
The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. All care is provided based on the concepts inherent in the model of care for TCH, which promotes an ongoing partnership between patients, families, and the healthcare team. The care is culturally based and age-specific. The RN adheres to the American Nursing Association (ANA) code of ethics and the scope of practice described in the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
Responsibilities
The Nursing Process
Assessment - Demonstrates nursing skills to complete a holistic assessment of the patient's physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs utilizing The Christ Hospital Professional Practice Model.
Diagnosis and Planning - Utilize collected data to establish and prioritize actual and potential patient problems and needs.
Implementation - Provide evidence-based, quality care based on assessed needs and standards, adhering to hospital policies to achieve set goals.
Evaluation - Continuously evaluate nursing practice against standards and patient outcomes, adjusting care plans as necessary.
Maintain continuity of care through ongoing evaluation during handoffs, rounding, and transfers.
Documentation
Accurately document the nursing process in the electronic medical record, reflecting the care plan, updates, education, and patient/family responses in a timely manner.
Leadership and Professional Development
Demonstrate leadership by motivating, educating, delegating, and mentoring peers, managing patient and family care effectively, and pursuing professional growth.
Employee Responsibilities
Comply with policies, complete required education, and submit documentation promptly.
Attendance
Follow attendance policies, report on time, and maintain good attendance records.
Qualifications
Education: TCH hires AD and Diploma nurses; all nurses hired after January 2010 must obtain a BSN within 5 years. Experienced nurses may pursue BSN voluntarily. A MSN or DNP supersedes the BSN requirement.
Experience: None required.
Skills & Knowledge: Ability to provide age and culturally specific care, communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate ongoing professional growth.
Licenses & Certifications: Current Ohio nursing license, BLS certification, ACLS within 6 months for certain units, and specialty certification within five years if applicable.
