Job Description
Atlantic Heath System is seeking an experienced registered nurse to work FULL TIME in the Preop/Phase II Recovery at the MMC Ambulatory Surgery Center in Rockaway, NJ. This clinical team member will primarily work between the hours of 9AM - 5PM and/or based on the needs of the surgical schedule and staff coverage needs.

Responsible for working with other healthcare professionals to help treat patients undergoing ambulatory surgery and other procedures including but not limited to; Colonoscopies, Ortho sports and minor trauma, Ortho hand, GYN, Laparoscopic, Plastics, Urology, General, Rectal, Podiatry, Pediatrics. Monitors patients, administers medications, keeps records, consults with healthcare providers, educates patients and more.
The registered nurse will be responsible for pre-screening surgical patients who meet the selection criteria for ambulatory surgery.
Duties will include but not be limited to; timely preoperative and post operative phone calls, working with physician offices in obtaining medical and cardiac clearances, comprehensive history and physicals and any other pre-surgical documentation, coordinating language interpreters, if needed, maintaining AHS/ASC guidelines, collaborating with anesthesia on patient selection criteria or concerns, communicating patient information through EPIC with the use of Secure Chat, daily review of surgical schedule for changes and updates, communication with all other providers as necessary including nursing, physicians, physicians assistants, surgical schedulers, nurse practitioners, anesthesia, Nurse Manager, Medical Director, OR/PACU team etc. This registered nurse will also perform comprehensive nursing assessments, cover the preop nurses and Phase 2 nurses, as needed.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Maintains accurate, complete health care records and reports in EPIC. Will perform chart review and audits.
2. Administers medications to patients and monitors them for side effects and reactions.
3. Applies assistive medical devices and performs related treatments.
4. Monitors, reports, and records symptoms or changes in patient conditions.
5. Assesses, implements, plans, or evaluates patient nursing care plans by working with healthcare team members.
6. Records patient vital signs and medical information.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.
8. Will participate in clinical subcommittees/projects, policy review as requested
9. Perform patient education and patient teaching throughout the perioperative phases as needed.
QualificationsRequired:
1. Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program.
2. Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
3. ACLS, BLS certification.
4. Exceptional communication skills
5. Excellent time management skills
6. I.V. insertion
Preferred:
1. Bachelor's degree in nursing.
a. All ADN must complete their BSN studies within five years of their start date.
2. Master's degree in nursing or related field.
3. 3+ year of experience in preoperative nursing/ PAT's. Ambulatory Surgery center experience a plus.
4. PALS certification available after hire. Professional certification such as CPAN a plus
5. Basic arrythmia/EKG competency.
