JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for general nursing activities in the operating room. The perioperative nurse is a registered nurse who designs, coordinates, and delivers care to meet the needs of patients undergoing operative or invasive procedures, using the nursing process. They establish, supervise, and ensure quality and efficiency in surgical team activities.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Promotes and restores patient health by completing the nursing process, collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members, providing physical and psychological support, and supervising team members.
- Provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends to establish a compassionate environment.
- Ensures quality care by adhering to standards, measuring outcomes, and making necessary adjustments in line with hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains a safe, clean working environment by following procedures and regulations, and calling for assistance when needed.
- Protects patients and staff by following infection control policies, medication procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
- Documents care actions, irregularities, and needs accurately using SBAR, maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Ensures proper functioning of equipment, troubleshooting malfunctions, and evaluating new equipment as necessary.
- Prepares for surgical cases by confirming availability of supplies, equipment, and implants, and documents charges accurately for fiscal responsibility.
- Maintains professional knowledge through ongoing education and certifications.
- Contributes to team efforts and patient safety through collaboration, promoting PRIDE values.
