Job Description

The Registered Nurse provides safe therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way, incorporating differences into the provision of care. Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum, including patient and family education. Relies on education and training to complete responsibilities within scope of licensure as a registered nurse.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Practice and Care Management
  • Performs psychosocial/physiologic assessments that integrate changing data
  • Formulates a plan of care based on trends of similar patients, including patient education and discharge planning. Tailors and prioritizes caring practices to individual needs, including cultural, ethical, and spiritual needs.
  • Participates in planning routine transitional health care needs (e.g., treatment options, patient placement, end-of-life options)
  • Responds to changes in patient's needs and provides holistic care using independent clinical judgment based on education and experience.
  • Adapts educational programs and information to individual patients and families by modifying teaching strategies or content. Collaborates with patients and families to identify realistic desired outcomes.
  • Ensures efficiency in care delivery by determining immediate priorities and offering solutions to problems.
  • Actively advocates for patient rights and identifies potential conflicts, seeking counsel for resolution.
  • Identifies variances from expected outcomes and evaluates patient outcomes, making revisions in the plan of care as needed.
  • Documents all patient care activities per standards and assists the healthcare team with documentation.
Communication and Collaboration
  • Communicates and collaborates consistently with healthcare team members, patients, and families to maximize outcomes.
  • Delegates patient care activities appropriately and participates in staff assignments to optimize productivity.
  • Maintains knowledge of unit initiatives and incorporates team/committee outcomes into practice.
  • Participates in unit teams, work groups, and committees, and assists others proactively.
Quality
  • Demonstrates knowledge of quality improvement initiatives and participates in them using standards and guidelines.
  • Incorporates evidence-based practice and research into nursing practice to improve outcomes.
Professional Development
  • Acts as a clinical resource and mentor, displaying leadership behaviors.
  • Identifies personal learning needs and completes required education and competencies.
  • Ensures ongoing practice improvements through self-development and lifelong learning.

Qualifications
  • Minimum one year of acute care nursing experience
