Job summary

Carson Tahoe Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Float Pool on a per diem basis in Nevada. The RN will provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care across multiple departments including Medical/Oncology, Surgical/Orthopedics, Telemetry and CDU, with additional rotations to Emergency and ICU as needed.

Qualifications include an active RN license in Nevada, AHA BLS, ACLS within six months, and NIHSS certification within 180 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Current and unencumbered RN license through the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
• AHA BLS for healthcare providers.
• AHA ACLS within six months of hire or entry.
• NIHSS certification within 180 days of hire or entry.

Responsibilities

• Provides safe, patient-centered nursing care under supervision and within the care team.
• Float pool responsibilities across Medical/Oncology, Surgical/Orthopedics, Telemetry, CDU, and related units.
• Maintain licenses and certifications on the designated platform and update competency levels.
• Identify changes in patient condition and communicate with the care team promptly.
• Deliver discharge planning elements and involve patient/family in planning care.

Summary

The registered nurse is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient centered care, under the direction of the department manager, supervisor, and charge nurse. Proficiency in administering the fundamentals of the nursing process, assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Qualifications

Required:

Current and unencumbered licensure or Interim Permit as a Registered Nurse (RN) through the Nevada State Board of Nursing

American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers

American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for healthcare providerswithin six (6) months of hire or position entry

Must successfully complete National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within 180 days of hire or position entry

Preferred:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

A minimum of one-year Acute Care experience

CMS-RN or PCCN

Successfully complete the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention within six (6) months of hire or position entry

Essential Functions

• Has knowledge of and adheres to Carson Tahoe Health’s policies, procedures, and unit standards of care.
• Attends 75% of scheduled staff meetings/unit conferences. Attends/completes 100% of all required Unit and Hospital education and Employee Health annual requirements by the established deadlines.
• Maintains required license and certification requirements on provided platform.
• Maintains competencies to reflect current skill level.
• Self identifies and seeks guidance when encountering nursing procedures and responsibilities that have not been mastered. Seeks out and communicates need for additional learning experiences.
• Appropriately identifies changes in patients presentation and communicates changes to the care team.
• Adheres to performing/receiving bedside handover as per organizational standards.
• Accepts accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of non-professional personnel.
• Identifies patient teaching needs and provides elementary instructions for the patient and his or her family.
• Develops, reviews, modifies, and implements comprehensive plan of care.
• Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations.
• Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan.
• Uses assessment information to develop a care plan that communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for the patient.
• Includes the patient and their family in planning care, establishing priorities, and setting goals.
• Consistently follows established standards, policies and procedures in providing nursing care.

• Evaluates and notes the individual patient’s response to nursing care defined in the nursing care plan and medical records.
• Appropriately delegates and supervises care scheduled by non-professional personnel, providing instruction as needed.
• Assists in the teaching or preceptor role for student nurses and other allied health professionals
• Demonstrates proficiency as defined in the position/group/department checklists and unit specific competency standards.
