Role Description

This full-time, on-site Registered Nurse Float Pool role is based at St. David's North Austin Medical Center in Austin, TX. The Registered Nurse in the Float Pool will provide direct patient care across multiple units, adapting to different specialties and patient populations as needed. Daily responsibilities include assessing patient conditions, developing and implementing nursing care plans, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient responses, and collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary team members. The nurse will document care accurately, support patient and family education, and follow hospital policies, safety standards, and infection control procedures. The role also involves responding to rapid changes in patient status, assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges, and contributing to quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives.

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas (or compact license) and graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred).
• Clinical experience in acute care hospital settings, with the ability to float to multiple units and care for diverse patient populations.
• Strong patient assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills to manage varying acuity levels.
• Proficiency in medication administration, IV therapy, and use of electronic health records and other clinical technology.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals and to educate patients and families.
• Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, and time-management skills to work in different units and handle changing priorities.
• Commitment to patient safety, infection prevention, and adherence to regulatory and hospital standards.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and other specialty certifications (e.g., PALS, NRP) preferred depending on unit needs.
