When you join PPGNY as a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide direct clinical care across a full spectrum of sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning, abortion care, colposcopy, and LEEP. As a key member of the interdisciplinary team, this role requires flexibility to rotate across PPGNY health centers. You will practice within the full scope of New York State RN licensure and in accordance with PPGNY standards of care.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SRH Clinical Care and ICA Patient Care (90%)
- Review the patient health history for completeness and record findings. Alert APC regarding critical information about the patient’s chief complaint, history of present illness, and other current or past medical or social problems.
- Provide care to patients receiving family planning, abortion, colposcopy, LEEP, and other GYN services according to PPGNY medical policies and procedures under the direction of APC or physician.
- Provide direct nursing care throughout the abortion care continuum—pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure—including preparation, continuous monitoring, and recovery. Assist in the procedure room and recovery area, ensuring clinical stability and emotional support for patients. Administer and monitor medications used to induce sedation in accordance with PPGNY protocols and RN scope of practice. Ensure safe, timely documentation, patient education, and post-sedation evaluation.
- Accurately document and administer medications as ordered by the provider and provide associated teaching.
- Document competently in the electronic medical record using the correct PPGNY templates and forms.
- Arrange for interpreters for patients with communication barriers.
- Collaborate with members of a multi-disciplinary health care team & provide care within New York State RN scope of practice.
- Assist in promoting optimum center operations, excellent patient service, and compliance with agency and funding source policies and regulations.
- Participate in health center/affiliate efforts to achieve established goals for productivity.
- Adhere to affiliate goals and policies on professionalism, wait time in-clinic and on the phone, and the system for addressing client complaints.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new RN/LPN or unlicensed medical personnel on the center team as needed.
- Perform other educational and experience related duties as required.
- Assist in abortion services in various functions including abortion counseling.
- Provide health education and nursing care related to family planning, reproductive health, abortion services, transgender health services, and STIs to all clients.
- Provide accurate patient-centered, non-judgmental education according to MS&G and signs informed consent related to visits.
- Perform laboratory tests as ordered, complete laboratory requisitions, and package labs for transport according to PPGNY lab procedures. Perform daily controls per lab protocols.
- Follow all safety and security procedures and guidelines.
- Participate in agency infection prevention and quality control initiatives and protocols.
- Notify patients of laboratory results and educate regarding clinician plan for follow-up.
- Screen and follow up on patient phone calls in collaboration with center APC or PPGNY physicians.
Maintenance of Clinical Skills and Competencies (10%)
- Maintain licensure, certifications, and competencies in abortion care and reproductive health as required by PPGNY, PPFA, NYS DOH. Participate in regular competency checks and training for all new services, tests, and skills as assigned. Perform and maintain job duties within scope of practice based on RN competencies, NYS Licensure, BLS, ACLS, PPFA Privileging, and/or specific education and training.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks including use of a computer. Frequent standing, walking, bending. Must be able to walk up and down stairs. Requires lifting or moving of patients/supplies/equipment. Visual acuity sufficient to perform frequent work on a computer screen and review printed reports and other materials. Requires the ability to hear and to communicate orally with others. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, and medical equipment and will require reaching, grasping, pushing, and pulling.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- This job operates in a professional office environment. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions in a health center environment. May require travel to other health centers, sometimes in inclement weather. Requires flexible schedule and during peak activity periods, working in excess of 7.5 hours per day and/or 37.5 hours per week.

$61.08 - $61.08 an hour
