Position Overview:
- Delivers quality care to patients through teamwork, involving assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Ensures patient safety by following appropriate policies and procedures.
- Provides support for pain management, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures, and assists patients and families in identifying comfort measures.
- Follows up on internal resources to evaluate intervention outcomes from other departments.
- Mobilizes resources in complex cases to maximize patient control and participation in recovery.
- Communicates information about the patient's condition and coping mechanisms to patients and families.
- Assesses the information needs of patients and uses appropriate communication to facilitate understanding of care and treatment.
- Develops and documents a discharge plan to support ongoing patient activities.
- Integrates assessment and diagnostic information with intuition to anticipate healthcare needs.
- Ensures effective handoff communication, including reports on potential issues and problems.
- Proactively addresses patient education issues related to medication management and discharge instructions.
- Modifies patient care regimens using discretionary judgment, collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure safe, quality care.
- Explores care options with case managers and providers to promote resolution.
- Displays awareness of unit operations, self-motivated to adjust staffing as needed, and participates in educational sessions to improve assessment skills.
- Provides individualized comfort measures based on evidence-based practices.
- Participates in hospital and unit committees, performance improvement activities, and Joint Commission readiness efforts.
- Contributes to achieving patient satisfaction scores and monitors HCAHPS metrics.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: Associate's degree or graduation from an accredited nursing school.
- Experience: None required; prior nursing experience preferred.
- Credentials: AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider, RN license in NJ.
- Must obtain TNCC within 1 year if assigned to specific units.
- Must obtain NIH Stroke Scale Certification and related CNE hours if assigned to designated units.
- CPR Certifications (ACLS, NRP, PALS) required within specified timeframes depending on assignment.
- Skills: Strong problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal, communication skills, and current nursing principles knowledge.
- Special Training: Knowledge of hospital nursing practices and standards.
- Work Schedule: 12-hour shifts.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Frequent physical activities include pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, reaching, squatting, wrist movements, fine motor activities, and sensory functions.
- Occasional activities include sitting and climbing.
- Continuous activities include standing, walking, carrying, talking, and hearing.
- Lifting requirements: 25 lbs. from floor to waist, and above waist.
- Sensory requirements include visual acuity, color discrimination, depth perception, and hearing accuracy.
- Exposure risks include bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne diseases, and dust.
