Job summary

Duke University Health System in Durham, NC, is seeking a registered nurse to join the Children's Procedural Sedation Unit (CPSU). You will plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care for pediatric patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, coordinating with physicians, nurses and support staff.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program.
  • Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in North Carolina.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • PALS preferred.
  • 2 years nursing experience preferred.
  • Moderate and/or general sedation experience with pediatric patients preferred.
  • Radiologic experience preferred.
  • Ability to multitask while managing assessments, care plans, interventions, evaluations, and patient education.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship management skills with patients, families, visitors, physicians, leadership, and multidisciplinary care teams.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care using the nursing process in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate sedation services in the CPSU for patients requiring complex care, assessment and evaluation.
  • Lead and support nursing staff, serving as team leader or charge nurse as assigned.
  • Monitor and maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
  • Participate in professional development, competency maintenance, and staff education/preceptorship.
  • Identify and participate in clinical and operational performance improvement activities.
  • Schedule patients for procedures requiring CPSU services, sedation, or general anesthesia.
  • Communicate with patients, families, CPSU staff, and multidisciplinary teams regarding procedures, instructions, and scheduling coordination.

What you can expect

Location: 2301 Erwin Rd. Durham, NC 27705 (Children's Health Center, 1st Floor)

The Children's Procedural Sedation Unit (CPSU) is a 7 room sedation suite hospital-based clinic that is an extension of Duke Health hospitals. Our team provides sedation services for children, inpatient and outpatient, from all specialties.

Schedule:
  • Full Time: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (flexible day shift hours), 40 hours per week.

How you will make an impact

What you will need

  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and complete the program within five years of their start date.
  • Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in North Carolina.
