Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a skilled Endoscopy RN to join the hospital’s fast-paced team. The nurse will assist with pre‑procedure assessments, IV access, medication administration, and patient education throughout the endoscopic journey.

The role emphasizes patient safety, teamwork, and precise procedural care in a setting with anesthesia support and ongoing patient monitoring. SC/Compact license, BLS, ACLS, and acute‑care/endoscopy experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current South Carolina or Compact State RN license.
  • Current BLS.
  • Current ACLS.
  • Endoscopy or acute-care nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care throughout the patient’s procedural experience (pre‑procedure, during, recovery).
  • Establish IV access and administer medications as ordered.
  • Educate patients and families about procedures and post‑care.
  • Support physicians and the procedural team during endoscopic procedures.
  • Monitor patients receiving sedation and/or anesthesia.
  • Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition promptly.
  • Assess readiness for discharge and provide post‑procedure instructions.
  • Flex between pre‑op, procedure, and recovery as needed.

What You’ll Do

As an Endoscopy RN, you’ll provide nursing care throughout the patient’s entire procedural experience, including:

  • Completing pre‑procedure assessments and preparing patients for procedures
  • Establishing IV access and administering medications as ordered
  • Providing patient and family education
  • Supporting physicians and the procedural team during endoscopic procedures
  • Monitoring patients receiving sedation and/or anesthesia
  • Recognizing and responding quickly to changes in patient condition
  • Providing post‑procedure recovery care and determining readiness for discharge
  • Educating patients and caregivers on discharge and follow‑up instructions
  • Flexing between pre‑op, procedure, and recovery based on patient and department needs
Procedures May Include

EGD, Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Bronchoscopy, Esophageal Manometry, Anorectal Manometry, Other Diagnostic & Therapeutic Endoscopic Procedures

Required Qualifications

Call Requirements

This position participates in the Endoscopy Department’s call rotation, including after‑hours, weekend, and holiday coverage as assigned. Team members must be able to respond within the department’s required call‑back timeframe.
