Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering safe patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Provides direct patient care within scope of practice. Guides patient and family teaching and supervises other nursing personnel while maintaining professional standards in Telemetry. The RN is directly responsible and accountable for patient care in the Emergency Department, communicating changes in clinical condition to physicians, and responding quickly to changes. Knowledge of EMTALA regulations and reporting child/adult abuse is required. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Training

  1. Current and valid state RN license.
  2. Current BLS certification upon hire and maintain current.
  3. Current ACLS certification within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
  4. Current PALS and/or ENPC certification within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
  5. Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire.
  6. Minimum one year of experience as a staff RN in an acute care hospital setting; ER experience preferred.
  7. Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.
  8. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Facility Specific Requirements

  1. In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN certification within 12 months of hire and maintain current.
  2. EDAP certified facilities: Completion of emergency pediatric courses 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire.
  3. Non-OB facilities: NRP certification within 90 days of hire and maintain current.
  4. Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNNC) within 12 months of hire required.
