Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse will implement the Nursing Process based on established Standards of Practice and ensure all patient care policies and procedures are adhered to in accordance with Garnet Health Hospital policies, the Nurse Practice Act, and New York State Licensure requirements. The RN must exhibit critical thinking, effectively organize and triage/prioritize, and implement evidence‑based nursing.

Compensation

The compensation range for the role is $50.44–$77.58 hourly. This range is provided to comply with New York State law on salary transparency. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses, incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).

Qualifications
  • Minimum Education: Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Minimum Experience: Six months’ medical‑surgical, critical care, emergency, or progressive care experience required. For the ED New Grad Residency program, new graduates with no experience will enter the 6‑month Residency Program to meet the experience requirement.
  • Required Certification/Registration:
    • Currently licensed and registered in NY State to practice as a registered professional nurse.
    • On hire, a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) course completion card, issued by an organization approved by the Hospital, must be presented. BLS renewal not required once ACLS is obtained.
    • Within three months of assignment, the employee will attend a hospital‑sponsored Crisis Training Program and will attend at least annually for the duration of employment.
    • Within three months of assignment, the following classes will be completed with a valid course completion card issued by an organization approved by the hospital, and the employee will maintain a valid card for the duration of employment:
      • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
      • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Prior to the end of the orientation period, a cardiac rhythm course is successfully completed.
    • Within six months of assignment, completion of an ESI 5‑level triage class with a refresher class taken not less than every two years.
    • Preferred Certification Classes:
      • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) presented by the Emergency Nurses Association
      • Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course (ENPC) presented by the Emergency Nurses Association
    • Preferred Board Certifications:
      • CCRN issued by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses
      • CEN issued by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing
    • Special Duties: Senior Emergency Nurses can be assigned to special duties that require additional training and experience, such as Charge Nurse. Charge Nurse responsibilities require at least two years of Emergency Nursing experience (in any Emergency Department) and six months of Emergency Nursing experience at Catskill Regional Medical Center.
Physical Requirements

The position primarily involves medium to light work requiring lifting and/or carrying objects up to 50 pounds. Bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, and reaching are required. The job requires 20% sitting and 80% standing or walking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken and written word is required.

  • Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well‑lit, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards. May have occasional exposure to blood, body substances, infectious materials, chemical hazards, vibration, radiation, slippery surfaces, or noise.
  • Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing, and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, work well under pressure, organize and synthesize new information and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills, and flexibility. Ability to multi‑task. Requires detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
