Summary
This position is located at the Wilmington VHA in the Emergency Department (ED).
Qualifications Basic Requirements:
- English Language Proficiency
- In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an accrediting agency such as ACEN or CCNE at the time the program was completed.
- OR individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing with coursework equivalent to a bachelor's degree may become registered with a state licensing board prior to completing the bridge program.
- Upon obtaining a State license, the individual may be appointed on a temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment after graduation from the bridge program.
- For foreign graduates, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration meets the graduation requirement from an approved nursing school.
- Foreign nursing education higher than an associate degree requires degree equivalency validation from a recognized agency like ICD.
- Current unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a US state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: Candidates meeting education requirements but lacking licensure may be appointed temporarily while pursuing licensure, with possible extensions.
Grade Determinations and Scope:
- Education and practice dimensions determine grade level, detailed in the online assessment.
- Nurse I - Level I: Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
- Nurse I - Level II: ADN/Diploma + 1 year experience or BSN.
- Nurse I - Level III: ADN/Diploma + 2 years or BSN + 1 year or MSN with no experience.
- Nurse II: BSN + 2 years or MSN + 1 year or related master's degree + 1 year experience, or Doctoral degree in Nursing with no experience.
- Nurse III: MSN + 2 years or related master's + 2 years experience, or Doctoral degree + experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BSN preferred, with minimum 5 years ED experience.
- Experience in triage and charge nurse roles.
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications; TNCC, CEN, TCRN, or other BCEN certifications preferred.
Physical and Other Requirements:
- Visual acuity, hearing, speech, manual dexterity, and ability to work long periods standing, walking, stooping, etc.
- Must be flexible and able to work effectively in stressful situations.
Duties:
- Provide individual nursing care, delegate tasks, and supervise staff.
- Deliver urgent and emergent care for various medical, surgical, and psychiatric conditions.
- Assess patients, develop care plans, implement, and evaluate care.
- Coordinate care, provide health education, and promote health.
