Job summary

Mille Lacs Health System in Minnesota is seeking an experienced registered nurse to deliver patient care across multiple units, utilizing the nursing process and collaborating with unit management. This role requires independent judgment, strong assessment skills, and dedication to patient advocacy.

Responsibilities include coordination of care, documentation, supervision of support staff, and participation in ongoing training and quality initiatives.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current, unencumbered RN license in Minnesota.
• At least 1 year of experience working in an Emergency Department.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check as required by Minnesota.

Responsibilities

• Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Medical, Surgical (inpatient/outpatient), Emergency, Senior Care, Nursery, Chemotherapy and Ambulance Transport as needed/delegated.
• Maintains certifications in all areas within scope of practice; supervision of LPNs and Nursing Assistants as needed.
• Demonstrates effective interviewing and assessment skills and integrates new or current techniques to obtain physical/psychosocial information from the patient/family to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care through the nursing process.
• Initiates and maintains patient care plan reflecting current patient needs utilizing computerized documentation
• Performs with minimal supervision, exercises good judgement to reduce errors.
• Demonstrates willingness to work extra shifts if needed.
• Demonstrates a willingness to train new staff.
• Attends annual skills fair.
• Uses personal protective equipment appropriate for the task.
• Reports accidents or incidents and safety hazards promptly.
• Cleans equipment, spills, etc. as necessary.
• Identifies needs and actively supports patient advocate/liaison role via documentation to proper resources.
• Proper computerized documentation maintained at all times (admission, discharge, meds, teaching, ADLs, intake/output).
• Identifies safety/risk management and quality improvement needs; participates in research, action, and evaluation of resolutions.

Summary

Under the direction of, and in collaboration with unit management, performs responsibilities exercising initiative, judgement and independent decision-making within the scope of the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and other governing organizations. Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) in a systematic approach to the direct and indirect care of patients and their families.

Required Education and Experience

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Additional Training

• All newly hired RNs will receive in-house trauma training within the first year of employment.
• This training meets the educational objectives of the Minnesota State Trauma System, unless the RN has previously completed one of the following:
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
• Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS)
• Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN)
• Certified Acute Trauma Nurse (CATN)
• Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR)
