GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, delivering, and managing direct patient care using the nursing process and adhering to nursing practice standards within a specific unit or clinical area.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Nursing Process: Utilizes the nursing process for patient care management.

  • Maintains patient assignments according to unit guidelines and standards.
  • Uses positive customer service skills when communicating with patients and families.
  • Involves patients, families, and other disciplines in decision-making about the care plan.
  • Serves as a patient and family advocate.
  • Implements interventions consistent with hospital standards and evidence-based practice.
  • Documents assessments, care plans, and responses accurately.
  • Coordinates and communicates the patient’s plan of care for continuity.
  • Maintains competency in managing clinical emergencies.
  • Provides complete SBAR communication to relieving staff and demonstrates advanced planning.
  • Navigates patient medical record software and hospital intranet efficiently.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Job Knowledge and Skills:
  • Provides care considering age, development, and cultural patterns.
  • Follows unit guidelines and hospital policies.
  • Leads, guides, and motivates staff.
  • Communicates clearly in English.
Education:

Graduate of a recognized school of Nursing; BSN preferred.

Experience:

2-3 years of Nursing experience preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Licenses, etc.:

Current Massachusetts RN license required. Certification in a nursing specialty is desired.
